Miko Coffey was the Head of Digital Media at NESTA, where she focused on a forward-thinking approach to NESTA’s online offering. With a particular interest in online collaboration, Miko worked on a number of projects that play to the strengths of the medium.

Prior to joining NESTA, Miko worked in all aspects of online – from e-business at Thomson/Sweet & Maxwell, to online marketing on both agency and client-side, to web design, development and management for international charity CIEE.

Born to Japanese and American parents in Texas, she attended The University of Texas at Austin where she graduated with honours, specialising in Computer Generated Art. It was here that her passion for all things online began, initially as an avid user of GOPHER and Mosaic in the early 1990s, culminating in the creation of her first website in 1994.

She was also an early adopter of the social web, joining alt. and rec. Usenet newsgroups as well as being one of the earliest contributors to SITO's HyGrid. This passion for harnessing the connective power of the Internet has continued over the past 13-odd years; she can still be found hanging out in web-based forums and communities under a variety of online identities.

Having studied Mathematics at The University of California at Berkeley and Fine Art at UT Austin and University of Lancaster, Miko’s multidisciplinary interests are right at home at NESTA. She spends her free time knitting, DJing and 'making stuff'.
